RV Tips: Using Your RV as a Guest House During the Holidays

The holidays will be here soon – how are you planning to use your new or used RV for the occasion? Maybe you’re planning to travel to visit your loved ones – but if you’re the one staying home and hosting, why not use your RV as a guest house? It’s a great way to spread holiday cheer by helping alleviating some travel expenses for your out of town guests. Here’s the why and how of using your RV as a guest house during the holidays.

RV Tips

Cut Back on Stress (and Expense!)

The holidays are expensive enough already – and so is traveling. Some family members who are already feeling strapped for cash may find that it’s simply too cost prohibitive to travel in for the family gathering, and find reasonably priced hotel rooms (if they can find them at all). Having a warm and cozy place to stay can make their holidays merry and bright.

RV Tips

And honestly, sometimes the time spent together is only as fun as having separate quarters to retreat to at the end of the evening. Using your RV as a guest house during the holidays gives you the necessary personal space that will help you enjoy the time you do have together even more.

Prep the Space

Adding a festive touch to your new or used RV can transform it into a perfect Christmas cottage for guests. Adjust this list as necessary for your guests’ needs or your specific holiday traditions…but here’s a start:

  • Freshen up by wiping down surfaces, vacuuming the floors, and with fresh linens in the bed and bathroom of your RV.
  • Restock a fresh supply of toilet paper, paper towels, and hand soap. If you really want to go the extra mile, leave travel size soaps, toothpaste, razor, etc. All those little toiletries that are easy to forget when packing!

RV Tips
  • Deck the halls by leaving a seasonal comfy throw blanket or pillows on the bed or sofa. String some lights around windows, and consider adding a mini tabletop centerpiece on the kitchen island or dinette.
  • Leave a small stash of holiday classics (books, movies, music) in the living room, or include your streaming service and WiFi login on a Christmas card left for them so they can kick back with the holiday entertainment of their choosing.
  • Milk and cookies, anyone? Santa’s not the only one who likes having treats left for him! Treat your guests to a basket of hot drink choices in the kitchen – like coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and apple cider mixes. Other holiday classics can be a popcorn tin, a sausage, cheese, and crackers assortment, a basket of fresh citrus, or even a tin of Christmas butter cookies (the kind that Grandma always had on hand!). Milk and creamer in the fridge are the perfect extra touch.
RV Tips
  • One way you can really put a bow on it (literally!) is to leave a couple rolls of wrapping paper with tape and scissors in case your guests need to wrap gifts after they arrive.

Hospitality is a bit of an art form, but it’s not hard to learn when you take it in little steps.
